I've read the Vista posts and couldn't find an answer to my question....
I'm trying to use the Sandisk Cruzer Micro (4gb) with Vista and readyboost. I know the micro and vista aren't compilable but I'm wondering if its U3 thats not compilable with Vista? Can the device itself be used in Vista? |

It is only the u3 software that has issues with Vista. additionally it is only certian devcice(firmware)versions that has these issues.
Sandisk drives with device versions 2.17, 2.18, 2.19, and 2.20 will NOT load U3 on Vista. The removable disk partition will work normally as a storage device.
All other device versions do not have this issue.
SanDisk now makes drives that are enhanced for ready boost. these drives are fully Vista compatible and enhanced for ready boost will be marked on the package. |

| Any ideas why my sandisk cruzer 4gb wouldn't work with Vista as a normal storage device? I cant even get that to work. |

Is your Vista install an upgrade from XP or a clean install?
All my friends in da business who run pc repairs are honking something vicious about the "update" version causing massive trauma.
Most of them back off the customers data, wipe the disk and do a clean Vista install to sort it.
If it will not work as a standard USB storage device then that points to USB driver troubles in the Operating System as opposed to a U3 problem.
I use a Cruzer Micro 1GB on our Vista test box (clean install) and it works fine.
Tried it at a friends house last weekend on an upgrade version and it failed. |

I'm having the same problem as Johnyu3. My device version is 3.27 and has ReadyBoost on the package. When I went to device manager and clicked on update device driver, it came back saying an updated driver was found but could not be installed. Any other suggestions? Thanks. _________________ Jo |

For the gazillionth time.
Vista Update for U3 must be run on Windows XP or Windows 2000.
It will not work when run on Vista. |

i dont think he is talking about the LP version. Devices that shipped with device version 3.27 and have readyboost marked on the package are all shipped with LP version 1.4.0.2 whick is the Vista compatible LP.
I think he is talking about the actuall USB drives native to Vista.
Was this an upgrade to Vista from XP of a Full install?
Do you see any error messages relating to the failed driver install? |

THIS DID IT FOR ME!!!!!
1) Go to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepositor
2) You will see directories that starts with usbstor.inf
3) Open the latest or recent folder (checking the date and time of modification)
4) Copy all the files inside the folder to c:\Windows\inf
5) Disconnect and reconnect the device.
I am now able to use my 8GB Cruzer just fine.
Thanks!!!! _________________ Athlon 64 X2 6400 (3.2Ghz)

Just wanted to say thanks a million.
I've worked on this issue when I first installed Vista Business, and then again now when I setup my network again.
Finally works as it should.
Hopefully Microsoft and SanDisk will get there act together, and play nicely. |
